EXDisMgtAn update from Senior Sergeant Grant Marcus, Disaster Management Support Officer (Executive Officer)

Although the rainfall overnight and this morning has eased, it did not reach the levels forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).

Residents of Bundaberg and North Burnett regions should continue to watch the current weather event, especially people living or working along rivers and creeks. Further rain is likely in these regions however it is not forecast to be significant. There is also a chance of thunderstorms in the later part of today which may bring isolated heavy rain, flash flooding and high winds. A Flood Watch remains in place for creeks and river systems for our area. BoM have also issued a Flood Warning of minor flood levels for Baffle Creek. People are advised to monitor official BoM warnings and advice for more details.

Police, local Councils and other disaster management services continue to ask residents of Bundaberg and North Burnett regions not to panic, but at the same time not be complacent. There is potential for further rainfall in parts of Bundaberg and the North Burnett over the next 24 hours, which could lead to minor isolated flooding. There is no forecast for any moderate or major flooding in these two regions. Some communities from Baffle Creek to Agnes Water are currently isolated due to minor flooding of roads, but this is expected to ease with the forecast reduction in rainfall.

This has been a good opportunity for residents and business owners to undertake a review of their emergency plans. Residents planning to travel over the next few days are reminded to contact 13 19 40 or visit the associated website for road closures. Remember for the safety of yourself and others don’t cross flooded roadways… if it’s flooded, forget it. Any residents requiring SES assistance should telephone 132 500.
