Senior Sergeant Grant Marcus, Disaster Management Support Officer (Executive Officer) advises that residents of Bundaberg and North Burnett regions should be watching the current weather event closely. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) have issued a Flood Watch for these regions, as well as other regions to the north due to heavy rainfalls expected from this weather event. Residents living in the Three Moon Creek, Kolan River and Baffle Creek catchment areas are most likely to receive the heaviest rainfall and should pay the most attention.
Local councils and Police, along with other disaster management services are asking residents of Bundaberg and North Burnett regions not to panic, but at the same time not be complacent. There is potential for heavy falls in parts of Bundaberg and the North Burnett over the next 2 to 3 days, which could lead to isolated flash flooding. Current official forecasts do not indicate any major flooding in these regions, though for those regions further north of Bundaberg and North Burnett this is a possibility.
This is a good time for residents and business owners to review their emergency plan to make sure it is up to date and that they have enough provisions to last at least 3 days. If residents are planning to travel over the next few days and are concerned about road closures they should contact 13 19 40 or visit the associated website. Motorists are reminded not to cross flooded roadways… if it’s flooded forget it. The BoM have forecast severe storms as part of this weather system so if any residents need assistance due to damage caused by these storms they should contact SES on 132 500.
