Bundaberg Patrol Group will partner with our road safety colleagues at Bundaberg Transport and Main Roads and our Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Ambulance Service on Friday, May 26.

You’re invited to help support and advocate for road safety by making a pledge to drive safely.

As at midnight on May 18, we’ve sadly seen eleven fatalities across our Wide Bay Burnett District, with two deaths occurring this month. The loss of loved ones is lower in comparison to this time last year by three.

Bundaberg Patrol Group Inspector Pat Swindells said if each of us takes action, together we can save lives.

“The Fatal Five – drink driving and drug driving, fatigue, inattention, not wearing a seat belt and speeding – are the most common killers on Queensland roads and we urge everyone to think about these factors before heading out on the roads,” Inspector Swindells said.

Inspector Swindells encouraged all road users to take a stand and change the way we think and act on our roads, to make them safer for everyone.

Transport and Main Roads Regional Manager, Southern region, Wayne Crofts said road safety was everyone’s responsibility and the department was proud to again support the Australian Road Safety Foundation’s campaign.

“This campaign is an important way to remind people they have the power to make our roads safer and help reduce fatalities and serious injuries on our roads,” Mr Crofts said.

Mr Crofts reminds road users that while the focus of Fatality Free Friday was on one day, the overarching message of the campaign was every road user had a role to play every day of the year.

“I would encourage every Queensland road user to make the pledge and then put into practice what they have committed to,” Mr Crofts said.

“Let’s make our roads safer, for the sake of our family and friends.”
