What habits are you going to change for 2017?

Check the points below and see what simple crime prevention resolutions could help you or your family and friends.

  • New Year resolutions will see many start to ride a bike to work, school or for a general change of transport. Keep road safe by following road rules and wearing an approved and correctly secured helmet. Remember to secure/lock your bike away. Engrave your bike and complete the bicycle ID card, which can be found here.

Between 10pm on January 1 and 6am on January 2, a BMX bike and a scooter were allegedly stolen from a Walkervale address. The scooter has since been located although the bike is still stolen.

  • Lock it or Lose it – is your vehicle secure? There are two kinds of criminals that will target your vehicle and valuables, the opportunist thief and the professional thief. Remember to close and lock all vehicle doors and windows, even when the vehicle is parked in your driveway or on your property. Remove or hide any personal documents or valuables and check to see that your registration plates are secure and fitted.

Between January 1 and January 2, we’ve received three reports of stealing from vehicles. Property stolen included cash, cards, personal accessories and a mobile phone. Offences allegedly occurred in Svensson Street, Svensson Heights, Enterprise Street, Svensson Heights and Bingera Street, Bundaberg West.

  • Keep knives in kitchens or with equipment used to participate in a lawful recreation or sport. It is an offence to physically possess or carry a knife in a public place or a school, unless the person has a reasonable excuse. Self defence purposes is not a reasonable excuse.

On January 1 it is alleged a 43-year-old Bundaberg South man was in possession of a folding knife without a lawful reason. Police were conducting a search when the item was located. The man was issued a Notice to Appear at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on January 20.
