Motorists travelling along the Bruce Highway, Takilberan were able to see police in action on September 28, with road safety enforcement operation Oscar Affix.
Takilberan is approximately 23 kilometres north of Gin Gin, so the operation planning was prepared by Officer in Charge Gin Gin police, Sergeant Tim Marrinan.
Teams of police from Bundaberg Patrol Group, Wide Bay Burnett District Tactical Crime Squad, Brisbane Dog Squad, Road Policing Task Force and Roadside Drug Testing Unit all worked in partnership with Transport and Main Roads Inspection Officers.
Special thanks to SES workers and volunteers who helped set up and assist with meal preparation for officers working throughout the 12-hour operation.
Operation results included:
A 24-year-old Clontarf man was charged with one count of Trafficking in Dangerous Drugs. It will be alleged the man was intercepted during the traffic operation, where he was found to be in possession of a number of bags allegedly containing cannabis. The man is scheduled to appear in the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on October 26.
Five positive drug saliva tests resulted from 65 drug tests performed.
More than 2500 Roadside Breath Tests were conducted.
Traffic Infringement Notices were issued for:
- Speeding
- Driving whilst unlicensed
- Driving unregistered/uninsured vehicle
- Drive/park a defective vehicle
- Wilfully deface, destroy or mutilate a licence
- Drive motor vehicle while passenger at least 4 years but less than 7 years unrestrained
- Driver fails to record information in a prescribed way
- Excess dimension
- Excess mass
- Fatigue management
