Police Liaison Officer (PLO) Kyrra Wilson has recently been spending time with our youth population and encouraged her police colleagues to join in.

Each Thursday night, Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth have the opportunity to shoot some hoops and play basketball with police from Bundaberg Patrol Group.

“Each week we are getting more kids come along which is great,” PLO Wilson said.

“On Thursday night we had quite a few officers join in.

“Constable Bryce Davis came along in his own time and Constable Hayden Drinnen was out there playing full kit.

“Detective Senior Constable Gordon Hard from Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) had a run along with Plain Clothes Senior Constable Lorne Stupart from Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU) and other officers showed up to cheer the guys on.

“Will (Shak) Shakleford from the Bundaberg Bulls has been here since the program began and has built a great rapport with the kids. He is a great draw card for the kids and the program wouldn’t be the same without him.”

Special thanks to Bundaberg State High School, Domino’s, Subway, Coles and Woolworths supermarkets in Hinkler Central, Lloyd Finnis from FNQ Security, Salvation Army and Sue Tasker from Angels Inc Australia for the donations, they have contributed to help keep the program running.

The basketball program is yet to be named, so the youth are thinking up some ideas to brand the group.

Why not join PLO Wilson this Thursday night, September 8 at Bundaberg State High School from 6:00pm.
