If I was a builder, plumber, cabinet maker, electrician, painter or mobile hairdresser, I’d certainly want to make sure all my tools of the trade were secure. They are essential to getting a days work done.
Disappointingly our crime reports are indicating that tradies have recently been targeted by thieves. Tools and personal accessories have been stolen from vehicles, utes and toolboxes.
Since July 1, steal from motor vehicle offences have occurred in a number of areas including Bundaberg North, Branyan and Kepnock.
Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) officers have charged a 35-year-old Bargara man on August 23 with 14 counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break. The man is scheduled to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on October 7.
Investigators have seized a number of property items during their investigations and would like to return these to the rightful owners. If you are able to prove ownership of the pictured property, please contact Bundaberg CIB on 4153 9066.
If you know a tradie, let them know they can help prevent and reduce these offences with some well known tips:
- Secure tools in a locked area, which means yes, lock the side panel doors and find a quality locking device for your toolbox
- Keep tools out of sight and consider parking your vehicle in a locked garage at night. Word of mouth should attract new customers and having your ute out of sight at night may just reduce the temptation by an offender
- ID your tools so there is a greater chance of having them returned if they are seized or located by police. An ID may also reduce the opportunity for the offender to sell your tools. Further details can be found here
