Each working day I check information about various crime offences that colleagues attend, investigate and solve. Road policing and traffic enforcement is included in this area.

In the first two weeks of February, you’ll see the calendar for Bundaberg Patrol Group has nearly been booked out with unlicensed drivers. Approximate times and locations have been detailed.

These drivers were intercepted by police for different reasons including Roadside Breath Tests (RBTs), licence checks, speeding offences and traffic complaints.

The drivers were allegedly unlicensed due to:

  • forgetting to renew their licence
  • having accumulated demerit points resulting in a suspension
  • having complete disregard for the law and never holding a licence

The consequences for these drivers range from being issued a Traffic Infringement Notice, also known as a monetary fine or being scheduled to appear in our Bundaberg Magistrates Court at a future date.

Some drivers also had their vehicles impounded due to repeated offences.

Unlicensed driving is a Type 2 offence as defined under section 69A of the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000. Additional information can be found here.

Be aware of who you are travelling with on the road and check your licence to ensure it is current. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
