A winning entry in a recent Longreach policing competition

You know, the one in the car when little miss six year old asks, “What does 60 mean?” You reply, “Oh, the speed limit a driver can be”. Next question from master eight year old, “What speed are you travelling at?” You glance at your speedo, and see you’re travelling at 65km per hour, and quickly slow down to 60km. Then the reply, “60” comes out.

These are little conversations young people share at times and they now have the opportunity to take part in a new social media road safety campaign called “Your kids are telling you” which was recently launched by Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller, Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey and Acting Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating of Road Policing Command.

We’d love to see as many of our Bundaberg Patrol Group primary school students share their creative ideas and road safety messages in a poster design to help curb parent’s and carers bad driving habits. Last year we received just shy of 600 colourful entries in our local road safety colouring competition, so we know there should be a lot of interest.

It’s easy to enter and there are two categories:

  • Prep to Year 3
  • Year 4 to Year 6

Five winners from each category will have their poster widely used on QPS Facebook and Twitter accounts during the June/July school holidays.

The deadline for submissions is 5pm June 19.

To submit your form go to the QPS News site.
