Senior Sergeant Grant Marcus, Disaster Management Support Officer, advises this is a precautionary instruction communicated in times of cyclone warnings.
You may need to find a suitable small, interior room and preferably with no or few windows. This is where you can take refuge during the cyclone. A cyclone shelter is not present in Bundaberg. If you are told to ‘Shelter in Place’, Bundaberg Local Disaster Management Group remind you to think about:
- House and surroundings – Secure all loose items and any outdoor furniture.
- Windows and doors – Board or tape windows and secure all doors.
- Cars/Motorbikes/Caravans – Make sure your vehicle is full of fuel and is secured undercover.
- Evacuation Transport – If you do not own a vehicle make arrangements for transport in case of evacuation.
- Animals – Secure pets safely undercover.
- Water and Supplies – Fill water bottles with water and stock up on food supplies.
- Refrigeration – In case of no power arrange alternative refrigeration.
- Valuable Items – Place all valuables in bags or containers (waterproof) and store them somewhere secure.
- Listen to radio – Stay updated with weather warnings.
