Abercorn school students have been hanging out with their local Adopt-a-Cop, Senior Constable Geoff Price for around 18 months since his arrival to the area in 2018.
The children were even lucky enough to virtually hang out with Senior Constable Price during COVID restrictions through their online/virtual parades.
Prior to COVID, Senior Constable Price was a regular attendee at the weekly school parade where he would take the time to catch up with students and present their awards.
While Learning at Home was in place, Senior Constable Price was still able to attend the online/virtual parades and the students really enjoyed talking and typing to him as he presented their awards online.
Senior Constable Price is a regular visitor to the school and has developed an incredible rapport and positive relationship with all students.
In the past 18 months, Senior Constable Price has been involved in many events and occasions at the school including:
- Daniel Morcombe Bike-a-thon from Abercorn School to Wuruma Dam. Senior Constable Price rode the 20km distance on his push bike with the students.
- Annual biggest morning tea event where members of the community attended and enjoyed cooking and refreshments prepared by the children. The students also enjoyed preparing a special activity that involved hitting a target just so they could try and beat Senior Constable Price.
- Cross Country practice every Tuesday morning, Senior Constable Price joined the students on their long laps around the school boundary fence.
- General games and activities at school.
- 2019 school concert performance – Senior Constable Price appeared as the ‘policeman’ chasing and arresting a naughty sheep.
- Book Week Performance – Senior Constable Price joined the Abercorn teaching staff to present a play for the students.
- Guest speaker at Abercorn’s Leaders’ Ceremony.
As a result of Senior Constable Price’s regular attendance and interactive role within Abercorn schools, the students have a very positive view of police officers
These positive attitudes will remain with students through the trust they have built with Adopt-a-Cops, like Senior Constable Price.
