If you live in these streets, please speak with your neighbours and remind them to lock up.

You can help stop, prevent and reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim by removing or hiding valuables and securing your vehicle.

This means you must secure/lock your vehicle before leaving it parked on a road. Your vehicle is considered unattended when you are more than 3m away from it.

Before you leave the vehicle you must:

  • switch off the engine
  • apply the parking brake
  • remove the ignition key if there is no one 16 years of age or older in the vehicle
  • wind up the windows
  • lock the doors

This rule applies to all road-related areas, including car parks and failure to follow may result in an on-the-spot fine of $50 in accordance with Section 213 Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Road Rules) Regulation 2009.
