Police are urging motorists to change the way we look at speed. This is a message you will hear and see repeatedly this Easter, as all motorists are asked to rethink their speed and slow down.

Our Road Policing Unit nearly had the job no one wants on Friday night, being the second high end speed offence we’ve seen in a few days.

A 42-year-old Carina man was driving a Volkswagen Golf along Elliott Heads Road, Woongarra. The driver was intercepted by police for an alleged speeding offence of 127km/hr in an 80km/hr zone at approximately 8:00pm.

The driver was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice for $1099 and eight demerit points. Upon payment of the fine the driver’s licence will be suspended for six months.

As this is a first time Type 2 offence as defined under section 69A of the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000, there is no impoundment of the vehicle.

Thank you to motorists who do abide by the rules and thank you again to our police officers working on the road who stop and prevent fatalities and trauma occurring, as best they can.
