Over the past few days senior members of our community have become victims after property was stolen from their homes, and while they were at home.
Seniors enjoy company and it’s disappointing that adults have allegedly befriended these seniors and then stolen from them.
Police are currently investigating the following steal from dwelling offences:
- Between 9:30am on March 3 and 6:00pm on March 5, offender/s have allegedly befriended a senior person. Over a short time offender/s have allegedly stolen an iPad, credit card, jewellery, clothing, prescription glasses, alcohol and towels from an address in Gum Tree Court, Coonarr. It is alleged the credit card has since been used fraudulently. If you have any information which may assist investigators, please contact Policelink and quote reference QP1600401284.
- Between 4:00am and 4:15am on March 7, a woman aged between 30 – 40 has allegedly knocked on the front door of a residence in Watson Street, Bundaberg South. The woman has asked to use the toilet and during this time a cup of coffee was made for her. When the drink was ready to be served, it was noticed the woman had left and after a few checks, so had a Visa card and cash from a wallet. If you have any information which may assist investigators, please contact Policelink and quote reference QP1600404795.
If you live near a senior or elderly person and have the chance to speak with them, please encourage them to:
- Be cautious about personal information they give to people.
- Make homes less vulnerable to potential thieves – lock it up.
- Trust their instincts and if feeling unsure, do not allow someone entry to your home.
- If a stranger or new acquaintance asks to use your phone and you would like to help, consider making the call for them while keeping them outside.
- If home alone and feeling concerned, pretend there is someone else in the house eg. yell out, “John, there’s someone at the door!” or “Jane! I’m sure I heard something, I’m calling the police.”
- Program in the phone numbers of a relative, neighbour, close friend, Policelink and the emergency number Triple Zero (000).
