Surprise – it could be a snake. The warmer weather and rain in the past week has seen some of natures smooth skinned snakes surprise a few people.

In times of flooding, snakes are looking to move to higher ground.

If you spot a snake in your area, please don’t panic. Let the snake escape and you can move away to contact an authorised snake catcher.

Snake catchers follow the Nature Conversation Act 1992 legislation and will remove and relocate the snake to a more suitable area.

Snakes are protected wildlife in Queensland and fines and penalties may apply if you decide to keep the snake as a pet.

If you see an injured snake you can contact RSPCA Qld.

Department of Environment and Heritage Protection have more information about snakes here.
