Listening with interest to Sergeant Russell Williams

Yesterday was a chance for 1400 secondary students in Years 9 to 12 to gain exposure to a number of future career opportunities, including Queensland Police Service. Parents and students were also invited to attend the public afternoon expo session.

Sergeant Russell Williams and I were kept busy describing the pre-application requirements and the many specialised and diverse roles police officers can take after completing three to five years as a General Duties officer. Police officers from Brisbane Recruiting Section were also in attendance for the public session.

General Duties police officers are the frontline of the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the people the community turns to in times of need.  To become a General Duties officer, 18 months of training is required, with 25 weeks as a recruit at the police academy followed by 12 months on-the-job training in the First Year Constable (FYC) program.  The Service recruits continuously and accepts applications throughout the year – it does not recruit for a particular intake.

Police Dog Squad, Mounted Unit, Forensic Services Branch and Explosive Ordnance Response Team were of high interest to the students.

Interested in joining the QPS?  Please visit our police recruit site at www.policerecruit.com.au.
