Holidays are here and tourists have found Bargara, Bundaberg, Childers, Eidsvold, Gin Gin, Monto, Mount Perry and South Kolan great places to visit.

With an increase in visitors, comes an increase in traffic on our roads and there will be situations police and emergency service colleagues need to attend urgently.

We call these priority Code 1 or Code 2 tasked jobs and we’re required to use flashing lights and/or siren to obtain priority travel over other motorists.

What does Code 1 and Code 2 mean?

Code 1 – for very urgent matters when danger to human life is imminent

Code 2 – for urgent matters involving injury or present threat of injury to person or property

Infringements of $274 and three demerit points can be issued to drivers:

  • Moving into path of emergency vehicle displaying flashing blue or red lights or sounding an alarm
  • Failing to move out of path of emergency vehicle displaying flashing blue or red lights or sounding an alarm
  • Failing to give way to emergency vehicle displaying flashing blue or red lights or sounding an alarm

General duties officers thank motorists who do move over and allow police and emergency vehicles to pass through. Road safety is everyone’s business.
